If you live in Lebanon, I guess you must have heard by now about the huge storm which is going to cloud our skies and freeze our bones during the entire week. If you live in Europe or Canada (shout out to Yel!), you must be freezing already!
So, on rainy weekends or gloomy afternoons, when you do not feel like going out or when you’re procrastinating before an exam – like I’m doing right now -, and when you have run out of people to stalk on Facebook and Twitter… admit it, it gets boring pretty quickly.
Solely for entertainment purposes, and in no particular order, I present to you my first list:
jneen8′s 5 ways to cure boredom!
1. Discover the internet with Stumble
StumbleUpon is the ultimate website to find the greatest and funniest posts, oddities, videos, etc. posted on the internet ever since its creation. That’s how I “stumbled upon” the Procrastination Flowchart, this evil list, OneWord, or…
2. Discover new music with Musicovery
After going through lots and lots of websites dedicated to discovering new music and artists, I found out that Musicovery is the best one out there: it’s free, easy to use, has an iOS app and works in Lebanon (so far)!
3. Find the craziest lists on Listverse
Listverse is the kind of website that must come with a “Highly Addictive” caution. You can lose yourself in there. Seriously.
Simply put, it is a website gathering all the lists you can imagine such as: 10 Fascinating Last Pictures Taken or Top 10 Museums That Will Scare You Silly.
4. Discover new movies with Jinni
Which genre of movies do you like? Action, Romance, Comedy, Film Noir, Musicals…? Jinni has everything and more! This website recommends you movies you haven’t watched yet, based on your taste and what you’ve seen so far. Very accurate suggestions, tested by yours truly!
5. Discover new books with Goodreads
Not everyone’s favorite thing to do, but reading, this “old-fashioned” activity as some would call it, gets better and better with Goodreads! Just like #4, it recommends books based on your likes and dislikes.
As a plus, here are two personal book suggestions that are bound to save you from boredom during an entire afternoon (and hopefully more!):
- The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy, by Stieg Larrson (read it before you watch the movie!!)
Here it is! Keep in mind that it is not an exhaustive list, so add your suggestions below! :)
